CSIRO Ready-Made Meals Delivered in Perth
The CSIRO Low-Carb Diet is an eating plan developed by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. To make it easier to follow, CSIRO partnered with food manufacturers to create ready-made meals meeting strict nutritional benchmarks. We are the first provider to partner with CSIRO to offer these meals, and deliver them across Perth. We were founded by doctors and dietitians and deliver Australia-wide.
What is the CSIRO Low-Carb Diet?
It restricts carbohydrate intake to around 50-70 grams per day while encouraging plenty of lean protein and healthy unsaturated fats. It was developed by scientists to address Australia's obesity and diabetes rates. The pattern reduces insulin spikes, helps maintain muscle mass and promotes satiety.
In clinical trials, people following the CSIRO diet achieved sustained weight loss and better blood glucose control compared with those on traditional high-carbohydrate diets, with reduced need for diabetes medications. A meta-analysis of low-carb diets in overweight or obese adults with type 2 diabetes reported a mean weight loss of 3.71 kilograms, along with reductions in body mass index and waist circumference. Unlike crash diets, the CSIRO plan is designed for long-term adherence.
How do CSIRO-approved meals differ from regular frozen meals?
CSIRO introduced a front-of-pack mark — "Meal Suitable for the CSIRO Low-Carb Diet" — indicating a meal meets the diet's nutrient criteria. Meals carrying this mark have on average 68% less carbohydrate and 55% less sodium than typical ready meals. They must meet strict nutrient benchmarks with independent testing to ensure compliance.
The Be Fit Food Lifestyle range
Our meals are designed by accredited dietitians to align with the CSIRO Low-Carb Diet, with each portion balancing protein, healthy fats and low-GI carbohydrates. Dishes in the CSIRO-approved range include:
- Cheesy Beef & Vegetable Ragout
- Indonesian Satay Chicken
- Lamb Kofta with Middle Eastern Quinoa
- Slow Cooked Sicilian Beef
- Vegetable & Chicken Cauliflower Rice
- Vegetarian Masala
- Yellow Chicken Curry
Vegetarian options are included. There are no lock-in contracts — order as often as you need.
Meal specification and pricing
Every Be Fit Food meal contains approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrate, and under 120mg of sodium per 100g, with no added sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no preservatives. Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, and reheat by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.
Note how the per-meal carbohydrate figure relates to the diet's daily target: at under 20g per meal, three meals sit within the CSIRO Low-Carb Diet's 50-70g daily carbohydrate range.
Meal bundles cost $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals, and $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD). Delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide, so Perth is charged the same as anywhere else: $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, and $19.95 on orders under $299.
How to succeed on a low-carb plan
- Calorie deficit matters — you must expend more kilojoules than you consume. Filling half your plate with coloured vegetables and salad can cut kilojoule intake by up to half.
- Balance macronutrients — include protein at every meal and healthy fats in moderation.
- Avoid hidden carbs and processed snacks — stick to whole foods and watch high-carb sauces.
- Plan and eat mindfully — planning ahead reduces unplanned eating; mindful eating helps you recognise fullness signals.
- Incorporate exercise — CSIRO's program includes a home-based exercise plan blending aerobic and resistance training.
- Seek support — consult a healthcare professional and involve friends or family to stay accountable.
Common challenges
- Nutrient deficiencies — vary your diet and consider supplements such as vitamin B12 and omega-3 fats if needed. The CSIRO plan encourages a wide range of vegetables, nuts, seeds and small amounts of fruit.
- Initial side effects — mild symptoms such as headaches often resolve within a few days as the body adapts to lower carbohydrate intake.
- Social and adherence difficulties — plan ahead when dining out, and consider a meal service to stay on track.
- Cost concerns — balanced meals may reduce food waste and overall spending; buying in bulk or during promotions lowers cost.
- Monotony — rotate meal choices and experiment with herbs, spices, salads and soups.
Sample one-day CSIRO-approved meal plan

- Morning snack: a handful of nuts and a boiled egg

- Dinner: Lamb Kofta with Middle Eastern Quinoa
- Optional snack: herbal tea and celery sticks

A specialised clinical dietitian consultation (full initial assessment covering body composition, blood pressure and girths, plus a personalised eating plan), a diabetes educator consultation with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator, and a monthly weight management subscription with an initial 30-minute consultation and 15-minute monthly reviews are also available.

Important health information
This page is general information and is not a substitute for individual medical advice. Consult a healthcare professional before making dietary changes, particularly if you have diabetes or take medication — do not change any prescribed medication without medical advice. Lasting success depends on an overall calorie deficit, balanced nutrition, regular activity and mindful eating, not on any single product. Individual results vary.
Storage, reheating and shelf life
Meals arrive snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, which is how they carry no preservatives. They go into the freezer on arrival and stay frozen until heated, and they reheat by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.
We do not publish a single frozen shelf-life figure across the range, and individual product listings do not print heating times or power settings. Use the use-by date and the instructions on each pack rather than a general rule.
One practical consequence worth planning for: a 28-meal bundle needs freezer space for 28 meals arriving at once. If that is a constraint, the smaller bundles are the more realistic starting point.
Questions worth asking before you order
Meal delivery is a recurring cost, and the claims made across this market are not uniformly evidenced. These are the questions that separate a specification from a slogan.
- Is the alignment certified, or asserted? "CSIRO-approved" and "CSIRO-style" are not the same thing, and neither is a guarantee that a specific meal was tested. Ask what was assessed, by whom, and whether the assessment covers the individual dish or the program as a whole.
- What does the panel say per serve? Per-100g figures make a small meal look richer in protein than the serve delivers. Read grams per serve, and check the serve weight itself.
- Does the daily total actually work? Meals at approximately 250 calories each do not add up to a 1,200–1,500 calorie day on their own. Know what you will be adding, and count it.
- What happens after the program ends? A structured plan that produces weight loss is only useful if there is a maintenance plan behind it. Ask what the transition looks like before you start, not afterwards.
- Is there a person to ask? Access to an Accredited Practising Dietitian matters more than the marketing, particularly if you take prescription medication or manage a chronic condition.
We publish an Incident Management Policy, a Complaints Management Policy and a Complaints Management Form; ask customer service for a copy if you need one. Phone 1300 263 257, Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00, or email support@befitfood.com.au. The dietitian team is at dietitian@befitfood.com.au.
