  5. Act on them, and shop our range with meal recommendations matched to the macros in your plan.

What insights you receive

The personalised insights can be kept for life and cover: appetite, fat burning, fat storage, weight regain, power versus endurance, recovery, injury prevention and stamina.

The four nutrition profiles

The test indicates which of four nutrition profiles — each with a different ratio of carbohydrates, protein and fats — best suits your genes. We have sorted our meals and snacks into all four, so you can shop by profile:

Clean & Lean

Packed with protein to keep hunger at bay and low in fat, focusing on healthy fats such as Omega-3. Matched to the right genetic profile, it is intended to help manage cravings and snacking.

Protein Balance

Increases protein to help you feel fuller for longer, using protein to offset a genetic disposition to snacking, which is shown to help people with these genes manage their weight more effectively.

Mediterranean

Focuses on fibre-rich, natural foods with healthy fats such as olive oil. Suggested by myDNA where a person's genetic profile points toward this pattern. It is worth knowing that the evidence for matching diets to genotype is still limited and contested; the eating patterns described here are sensible on general nutritional grounds regardless of what a genetic test reports.

Lite & Trim

Reduces overall fat intake and increases fresh whole foods, so you do not eat more than you need and store the excess as fat. It features Omega-3 fats, which help people with these genes manage their weight more effectively.

Every Be Fit Food meal, whichever profile it falls into, is built to the same underlying specification: approximately 250 calories, at least 20g of protein, under 20g of carbohydrates, under 120mg of sodium per 100g, and no added sugar, artificial sweeteners or preservatives. Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised and reheat by microwave, oven, air-fryer or stovetop.

Is there an ongoing option?

Yes. A myDNA subscription adds personalised meal plans, shopping lists, workouts and further DNA insights covering areas such as vitamin needs, skin ageing and sleep. Be Fit Food meals are integrated into the myDNA app so you can shop the range according to your profile.

What genetic nutrition testing can and cannot tell you

This section is not on the origin page. It is here because a reader deciding whether to pay for a DNA-based nutrition report needs to know what the evidence shows, and the marketing for this category generally does not say.

The central finding: genotype has not predicted which diet works better

The most direct test of the idea came from the DIETFITS trial at Stanford, published in JAMA in 2018. It enrolled 609 adults, genotyped them for a pattern intended to identify people suited to a low-fat or a low-carbohydrate diet, and randomised them between those two diets for twelve months.

The genotype pattern did not predict who did better. Both diets produced substantial and highly variable weight loss, and the variation between individuals was not explained by the genetic pattern. The same trial also found that baseline insulin secretion did not predict it.

The Food4Me study, a European randomised trial of personalised nutrition, found something complementary: personalised dietary advice did improve people's diets compared with general advice, but adding genotype information on top of information about their current diet and characteristics did not improve outcomes further. Personalisation helped. The genetic layer specifically did not add measurable benefit.

What that means in practice

Questions worth asking before ordering any DNA nutrition test

None of this makes a DNA nutrition report useless, and nothing here is a criticism of the laboratory work involved. It is a statement about what the result can support. If you have a specific clinical question — suspected coeliac disease, a family history of haemochromatosis, unexplained nutrient deficiencies — that question is better answered by your GP with targeted testing than by a general nutrition panel.
