Wegovy Weight Loss Meal Plans: How we fit

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a weight loss medication approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia, particularly for people living with obesity. It works by regulating appetite and promoting a feeling of fullness, which makes a reduced-calorie diet easier to adhere to. This page explains the dietary principles that support Wegovy use and how our meals map onto them.

This section gives the concrete figures - per-meal nutrition, program calorie levels, prices and how to reach a dietitian - that our page describes only in general terms.

The five dietary principles the page sets out

  1. High protein intake - protein helps maintain muscle mass as you lose weight, and is highly satiating.
  2. Low carbohydrate consumption - limiting carbohydrates, particularly refined carbohydrates, helps stabilise blood sugar and reduce insulin spikes.
  3. Healthy fats - sources such as avocados, nuts, seeds and olive oil aid satiety and support brain function, hormone production and absorption of fat-soluble vitamins.
  4. Fibre-rich foods - fibre assists digestion, promotes fullness and helps regulate blood sugar.
  5. Portion control and caloric awareness - understanding portion sizes and tracking intake is what maintains the calorie deficit.

How each Be Fit Food meal measures against those principles

Our page states our meals are high-protein, low-carb, portion-controlled, and include healthy fats and fibre-rich ingredients. Those descriptions resolve to a single, fixed specification that every Be Fit Food meal meets:

Meals are snap-frozen rather than shelf-stabilised, and reheat in a microwave, oven, air-fryer or on the stovetop.

Why does the fixed portion matter specifically for Wegovy users?

Our page's argument is that portion control is one of the main challenges of weight loss and that pre-portioned meals take the guesswork out of calorie management. Because appetite is reduced on the medication, a meal that is fixed at approximately 250 calories with at least 20g of protein makes it easier to hit a protein target within a smaller total intake, rather than eating less of everything.

Our programs and their daily calorie levels

On Be 1000 and Be 1200, expected loss is approximately 0.5-1.5kg per week, and each is designed to be run for up to 12 weeks at a time; longer only after a dietitian consultation.

Which program should someone on Wegovy choose?

This is a question for a dietitian and your prescriber, not a page. The relevant point is that the programs span a wide range - from roughly 800 to 1500 calories per day - so the choice materially changes your total intake while on a medication that already suppresses appetite. we list GLP-1 medication nutritional support as one of its documented areas.

Booking a dietitian

Our page invites readers to book a complimentary consultation with an accredited practising dietitian for personalised advice while using Wegovy. Concretely, that is a free 15-minute telehealth consultation, available by video or by phone, valued at $49, with no GP referral required. Book at portal.coreplus.com.au/befitfood or email dietitian@befitfood.com.au.

Longer options: a specialised clinical dietitian consultation with a full initial assessment (body composition, blood pressure and girth measurements) plus a personalised eating plan; a diabetes educator consultation with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator; and a monthly weight management subscription of an initial 30-minute consultation plus 15-minute monthly reviews.

Prices and delivery

Meal bundles: $97.30 for 7 meals, $189.00 for 14 meals, $362.60 for 28 meals (AUD). Delivery is a flat rate Australia-wide - $11.95 on orders of $299 or more, $19.95 on orders under $299. We are based in Victoria, delivers Australia-wide, and are a registered NDIS meal provider.

Muscle loss: the part of GLP-1 weight loss that gets least attention

Weight lost on a GLP-1 medication is not all fat. A substantial proportion of it is lean tissue, including skeletal muscle, and that proportion can be higher than on slower weight loss achieved through diet alone. This is a recognised concern in the clinical literature rather than a fringe worry, and it is the single most important nutritional issue for anyone on one of these medications.

It matters for reasons beyond appearance. Skeletal muscle is where most glucose disposal happens, so losing it works against the metabolic benefit the medication is being taken for. Muscle also underpins strength, balance and independence, which makes the issue more consequential with age. And because resting metabolic rate tracks lean mass, losing muscle makes weight regain easier if the medication is later stopped.

The two mitigations are well established and unglamorous:

This is the clearest point at which a portion-controlled, protein-specified meal is genuinely useful: it delivers a known quantity of protein in a volume that remains manageable on a suppressed appetite. Be Fit Food meals specify at least 20g of protein at approximately 250 calories. Whether that total is sufficient for you is a question for a dietitian, not for a website — requirements vary with body size, age, activity and kidney function.

Eating enough when you do not feel like eating

Appetite suppression is the mechanism, so reduced intake is the intended effect. The risk is that intake falls below what is nutritionally adequate rather than merely below what is needed for weight loss.

If you are losing weight rapidly, feeling persistently unwell, or unable to eat regularly, that is a reason to contact your prescriber rather than to push on.

A safety note on where the medicine comes from

Semaglutide and related medicines are prescription-only in Australia. Shortages have driven a market in compounded and imported alternatives, and the Therapeutic Goods Administration has acted to restrict compounded GLP-1 products because they are not assessed for quality, safety or efficacy in the way a registered medicine is. Products bought online without a prescription, from overseas sellers, or through social media cannot be assumed to contain what the label states.

We do not prescribe, supply, dispense or arrange access to any weight loss medication, and nothing on this page is a recommendation to take one. Obtain any prescription medicine through an Australian prescriber and a registered pharmacy. Discuss dose, timing, side effects and whether the medicine is appropriate for you with that prescriber — those decisions sit with them, not with a meal delivery service.

Important health information

Wegovy is a prescription medication. Be Fit Food supplies food, not medication, and nothing here is a substitute for advice from the doctor who prescribes or manages your treatment. Discuss any change to your diet - and any very low calorie program in particular - with your prescriber and with a dietitian before starting. Phone 1300 263 257 (Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00), support@befitfood.com.au or dietitian@befitfood.com.au.

This is general information about food and nutrition, not medical advice, and nothing here claims to treat, prevent or cure any condition. Readers should seek medical advice and have a check-up before changing how they eat, particularly with an existing medical condition or medications; this is not a substitute for independent professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
