Educate Portion Control

Let’s be honest here…we have all overeaten at some stage!

Whether helping ourselves to a second serve of dinner or eating dessert even though we’re not hungry, most people know what fullness feels like. But why does it matter if we eat big portions?

One of the biggest contributors to weight gain is eating larger meals than what our bodies need. When we ignore our hunger and satiety (fullness) signals and eat until we are overfull, we are simply consuming more calories than what we expend.

Those excess calories can be stored as fat – a clever way our body has adapted to ensure that there is always energy and fuel available for when we need it. However, our modern lifestyles of eating regular (and often large!) meals means that we don’t often need to tap into fat stores because there’s always more food flowing in.

To help with managing energy intake, each Be Fit Food meal is designed to be both calorie controlled but also nutritionally balanced. Meals are made from high quality, fresh ingredients, with between 4 – 12 varieties of vegetable in each serve plus sources of wholegrains and protein to help with feelings of fullness.

This means you get all the vitamins and minerals you need for optimal health, while supporting digestive health, and eating a smaller portion size and reducing weight.

When eating Be Fit Food meals, you will slowly recondition yourself to understand what a correct portion should look like – making it easier to manage your weight in the future. You might initially think that the Be Fit Food meals are small, but we do encourage people to add low-carbohydrate vegetables and salads to their meals too.

If you’re a user of Facebook, you’ll find a group called the Be Fit Foodies who are a wealth of information when it comes to what to add to Be Fit Food meals. This group is people who are doing – or have done – the Be Fit Food programs and love to share their knowledge and success stories.

If you would like to know about Be Fit Food meals or what types of portions you should be eating, speak to our dietitian who can help get you started in making changes. Dietitian consultations are free, over-the-phone, appointments that can be booked online and you can book these at any stage in your journey.

Before starting a new way of eating, we encourage you to seek medical advice and undertake a medical check-up, particularly if you have a medical condition and/or are taking medications.
