THE IMPORTANCE OF PORTION CONTROL FOR WEIGHT LOSS

THE IMPORTANCE OF PORTION CONTROL FOR WEIGHT LOSS

It's known that eating larger portions of foods and drinks, especially energy-dense processed foods, such as chocolate, soft-drinks and take-away, increases overall calorie intake, and can lead to weight gain. (1)

However, by controlling the size and portions of your meals, you can easily control the number of calories that you're consuming. With studies finding that implementing portion control can significantly reduce body weight and BMI. (2)

Research has shown that plate size influences how much we tend to consume. Individuals who used smaller sized plates for meals at home generally consumed less, whereas larger plates would cause more food to be plated and consumed. (3)

As is with any other dietary change, small steps in portion management can have significant outcomes for whatever your goal is. New consistent behaviours can take on average 66 days to become a habit, afterwards becoming automatically performed without much thought or burden.

At Be Fit Food, meals are pre-portioned, and calorie controlled, removing a significant amount of time and burden required in portioning, measuring, and calculating calories. Be sure to consult with one of our dietitians to know the best way in controlling your intake based on your own lifestyle, age, and specific needs.
